God has given us definite guarantee about our eternal adoption into his kingdom, so it’s important to protect ourselves against whatever challenges our position in Christ. Sin, like static over a telephone line, causes breaks in the linkage between us and God.
When we feel estranged from God – maybe due to lingering sinful habits or an unreleased angle of unforgiveness, concerns about our deliverance can crawl in.
We barely measure up to folks’s standards, so doubts may roll in about our identity in Christ. An overemphasis on feelings can end up in counting on non-permanent feelings instead of the unwavering Word of our Lord. The Accuser, who indicts us “day and night” ( Revelation 12:10 ), will remind us of our past, people we’ve hurt, or the shamefulness of our current sins and mistakes.
He’ll do anything to deter us into doubting who we are in Christ. Satan, on the other hand, will question whether God would accept somebody like you. He wants our eyes off the redeeming work of Jesus and targeted on our failure. Doubting the truth of the Scriptures may cause us to mistrust our own position in Christ.
